Catherine the great was the last reigning Empress of Russia from 1762 until 1796. She came to power following a coup d'état that overthrew her husband and second cousin, Peter III – after which, she became the country's longest-ruling female leader. Under her reign, Russia grew larger, its culture was revitalised, and it was recognised as one of the great powers of Europe. The period of Catherine the Great's rule, the Catherinian Era, is considered a Golden Age of Russia. Among her many achievements, she successfully championed Enlightenment ideals, expanded her empire’s borders, spearheaded judicial and administrative reform, and curated a vast art collection that formed the foundation of one of the world’s best museums. Our gorgeous Ekatherina dining set is named after Catherina the Great, who was no doubt an extraordinary, remarkable woman.
